Isolation & Beauty Abound on the South Coast The rugged, magical south coast of Mendocino beckons the true adventurer who desires salty, fresh ocean air and lingering golden sunsets. Enjoy one of Californiaís most dramatic and vivid seaside drives. Highway 1 meanders through unhindered dairy lands, rolling golden hills, breathtaking vistas and valleys, and over heather and pea farms. It winds up and down rocky coves, past unrestrained ocean views and slips silently through tiny coastal villages that beckon the traveler just to stop and take it all in. Romantic Bed & Breakfast Inns on the headlands invite walks to the ocean and whale watching from the terrace. Hidden jewels of restaurants offer just-caught fresh catches each day, wild game, local fresh-grown vegetables and herbs.
The South Coast is Mendocino's hidden jewel - it is quiet, romantic, and somehow restores and rewards the inner soul.

Special Feature
St. Orres Hotel & Restaurant
Located in Gualala
| |
|
The Hotel is very European with eight genuinely handcrafted rooms on the second floor. To reach them you climb a beautiful spiral staircase that Eric and his crew constructed of rough-hewn heavy timbers circling a finished tree trunk. (They also built a gently angled ramp at the back of the hotel for easy access if stairs present a challenge for you.) Through the gardens, just beyond the Hotel, a small foot bridge leads to The Meadows, on a rise above the hotel. Here, at the edge of the redwood forest among native and naturalized flowers, grasses, and trees, lie five cottages. The Dining Room at St. Orres celebrated its 26th birthday in January, 2002, and, one way and another, we're going to spend the whole year celebrating. The public, our peers, and the press have been wonderful to us- criticizing us when we needed it, praising us when we deserved it, and always supporting us in our efforts bring joy and excitement to the table. 707.884.3303
